Charges filed in 2002 Long Beach murder case

On April 13, 2016, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) homicide detectives presented a case for filing to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for a murder that occurred in 2002.
On Tuesday, June 11, 2002, just after midnight, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Molino Avenue regarding a male adult found dead inside an apartment. When officers arrived, they found a deceased victim who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.
Evidence collected from the crime scene was preserved and, with the advances in DNA technologies, a DNA profile was produced. Detectives were able to submit the DNA profile through a national database and receive a match.
The match came to a suspect already serving a federal prison sentence for an unrelated charge. The suspect has been identified as Eric Scanlan, 43-year-old former resident of Long Beach. Scanlan was charged with one count of murder, and his bail has been set at $3,000,000.
Scanlan is scheduled to be released from federal prison on Nov. 16, 2016, and he will then be extradited to Long Beach.
Those with information regarding the incident are asked to call Homicide Detectives Todd Johnson or Malcolm Evans at (562) 570-7244.
