Community Hospital of Long Beach (CHLB) has announced the new Saturday summer session dates for its Diabetes 101 program for individuals who have recently been diagnosed with diabetes. This four-session intensive program teaches participants the ABCs of living with diabetes.
The first summer session of Diabetes 101 took place in June, and the upcoming second session will take place on two consecutive Saturdays in July— July 12 and 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch is included.
Course topics include “So, You’ve Been Diagnosed Diabetic: What Does it Mean?,” “You Mean I Can Eat that Too?,” “Steps to a Healthy Heart and Body,” and “There is More to Diabetes than You Can Imagine.”
All of the Diabetes 101 sessions will be held in Conference Room 3 on the “B” level of the hospital and are free to participants, but reservations are required.
Diabetes 101 is part of the Family Wellness program introduced onto the CHLB campus in January 2006. The Family Wellness program at CHLB offers assessments, preventive services, education and health promotion activities, as well as chronic disease management to CHLB employees and members of the surrounding community.
CHLB also offers a free monthly Diabetes Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the hospital’s auditorium on the main level. Also offered is a glucose/blood pressure testing and brown bag pharmacy program the second Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from noon to 1 p.m., respectively, in the hospital’s front courtyard.
