The City of Long Beach has reached a tentative agreement with the Long Beach Lifeguard Association (LGA) over a successor labor agreement. The LGA represents 24 marine-safety officers and over 180 lifeguards (seasonal employees).
“I’m proud of the incredible work of our lifeguards and pleased we have reached an agreement that honors their work and is in line with our other employee agreements,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “We now have 10 out of 11 employee agreements completed.”
James Reinheimer, Long Beach LGA president, said Long Beach lifeguards are pleased to have reached “a fair and cost-effective” agreement with the City.
“Our beach lifeguards, rescue-boat crews, dive and swiftwater/flood rescue team will continue to take pride in saving the lives of the citizens and visitors of our great city, Long Beach,” Reinheimer said.
The LGA membership is set to vote on the tentative agreement in December. If approved, the agreement is expected to go before the city council for final approval in February.
The City now has 10 out of 11 employee associations under contract through September 2019, according to officials.
