The City of Long Beach announced its “2018 Year In Review” this week– an outline of the City’s accomplishments this year.
“2018 saw much of Long Beach under construction, as over $5 billion of private and public development are transforming and modernizing our city,” said Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia. “We are proud to have opened several new playgrounds, improved streets and infrastructure, enhanced efforts to address homelessness and reduced crime.”
The following is a list of accolades the City listed in its press release this week:
• Ongoing construction of the Civic Center
• 26 miles of sidewalk replaced
• 4.5 minutes average response time to police priority-one calls
• Permanent housing for 1,035 individuals experiencing homelessness
• Launch of the Justice Lab, which provides new tools to first responders to divert residents in need out of the criminal justice system
• Launch of the Everyone Home Long Beach initiative, an effort intending to ending homelessness
• Launch of the KIVA micro-loan program
• An unemployment rate of 4.1 percent
“Under the leadership of the mayor and city council, Long Beach continues to experience success on many fronts, and the great work City staff does is being recognized on a local and national level,” said City Manager Patrick West. “[…] We are fixing our streets and completing other infrastructure projects while improving mobility and the livability in our neighborhoods.”
