Notable government reform achievements and numerous programs and projects are recapped in this year’s City of Long Beach Year in Review (http://bit.ly/tc9u8N). Long Beach also started counting down the Top 10 stories of 2011 via www.facebook.com/CityofLongBeachCA on Friday, Dec. 16, and will continue with a news story a day until they reach 10.
“This is the time when we reflect on all of the great Long Beach news that happened throughout the year,” said Mayor Bob Foster. “These 10 stories and the Year in Review highlight real reforms and new efficiencies, as well as significant financial, environmental and technological accomplishments that will improve our lives today and well into the future.”
Quick 2011 statistics:
• 58 miles of streets were repaired
• 20,000 trees were trimmed
• 458,000 graffiti sites were cleaned
• 39,000 potholes were filled
• 132,000 calls for service were responded to by the Long Beach Police Department
• 61,000 calls for service were responded to by the Long Beach Fire Department
• 55,000 calls for service were completed by the Long Beach Animal Care Services staff
• 40,000 building inspections were completed
• 28,000 vaccinations for diseases were provided by the Health Department
• 13,620 code enforcement cases were resolved
• 1.6 million items were checked out of Long Beach libraries
• 461 film permits were issued, with a total of 701 production days
• 7,150 gas meters were installed, removed, or replaced
• 700,000 youth and teen participant days were recorded in Parks, Recreation & Marine Department programs
• 3,100 Long Beach residents were placed into permanent employment by the City’s Workforce Development Services
