In the Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Orange County Company, some agents celebrate Mother’s Day year-round as a partner in a family realty team.
In Long Beach, two pairs of agents are partnering with their children to sell real estate, offering a new way to spend quality time together. While some offspring try their hand at other careers before joining Mom, others feel they were “destined” for the business.
Debbie Thorpe, who has been a Coldwell Banker agent for 3.5 years in the Long Beach office, really enjoys the camaraderie in her partnership with daughter Tracey.
Debbie’s advice is to, “treat the relationship like a business, individually work to each other’s strengths and most importantly have fun!”
Tracey loves working with her mom as she can focus on the technology aspect of business while Debbie handles the prospecting and clients.
This also allows Tracey to continue her other passion of “disk golf” also known as “Frisbee golf.” Real estate affords her a flexible schedule to continue competing.
In these special relationships, many mothers found that working with their children has provided a whole new arena for marketing, thanks to their computer-savvy daughters.
In addition to the technological benefit, Long Beach team Pam Luckey and Tessa Luckey-Owens also recognize there is a generational difference at play.
“I look at real estate in a more contemporary way, while my mom has a more traditional perspective,” said Tessa, whom, Pam adds, brings a fresher and more creative element to their team.
However, no matter who handles which task or brings what talent to the table, each mother and daughter agrees the amount of trust and commitment devoted to the team is the greatest benefit.
From the children’s perspective, having a seasoned partner with a vested interest in their own well-being and career is great encouragement to follow in their mothers’ footsteps. Both mothers have wishes to pass on their knowledge and experience in the real estate business to their daughters in hopes they will continue serving clients to the best of their ability and carry on the family name.
