Communique from Rae Gabelich

Politics! Finances! Should We? What If? Thank God it will be a piece of our history within the next three weeks. Then we will live with our choices, our decisions. And hopefully we will be able to say we did our best to understand the outcome of each of our selected positions.
I just finished reviewing all of our November 4th voting choices with my son. We talk about each selection and what it could mean if our position is successful. Actually, doing it this way helped me to reconsider a couple of my pre-determined thoughts.
I encourage each of you to not only debate with your friends and family, but also spend some time in reflecting what impact your vote will have.
You know from the ad that I personally paid for last week, I believe in Measure I and what it will do for the quality of life in our city. I need not say anymore, but I am willing to enter that debate if you are so inclined. After work hours of course!
Some good news from our Bixby Knolls/Atlantic Avenue shopping corridor. The holiday season is nearing and yes, you can share that retail experience with two fun shops. Sweet Treasures Home, I visited just last week when they held their “clearance sale” (made some of us nervous!) to make room for the holiday treasures that will soon appear. This is a great place to unwind and reminisce as you take in the visual keepsakes that you may have seen in your grandparents home or even your own as a child. They also blend in the new, so there appears to be something for everyone!

Sonia of L’Exotique Appeal of Bixby Knolls has taken in a new associate, also my friend and neighbor, Tina. Together, they are expanding their product line to include gifts and accessories. They look forward to welcoming you all at this next First Fridays, November 7, as you stroll Atlantic Avenue and enjoy our Bixby Knolls community event.
Also, an update from our newest restaurant, La Vineria Italiana.
They have revised their menu to include some of what we Americans consider more traditional Italian meals…….spaghetti!! New salad choices and a new chicken entrée. Or simply stop by for a glass of fine Italian wine or a sparkling water and some good conversation.
Please continue to support all of our restaurants and retail shops. They are the backbone of a successful community!

Who feels like dancing? This Friday night, Havana Nights at The Petroleum Club from 6 p.m. until dawn…..not really, more like midnight. It’s another free event presented by our BKBIA and The Petroleum Club for all to enjoy.
Don’t stay up too late! The following morning we will be holding our October Community Coffee at El Ranchito Restaurant located on Long Beach Boulevard from 10 a.m. to noon. Always a lively venue to hear what’s going on throughout the 8th district and north.
Following the Coffee, I encourage you to attend the 13th Annual Historical Cemetery Tour that takes place at Long Beach Municipal and Sunnyside cemeteries at 1151 and 1095 Willow Street.
There’s a rumor out there that says our mayor gets himself involved in a poker game that results in some rather serious gunfire! All in the name of supporting our own Historical Society of Long Beach.
If you miss this event, please do stop by and say hello to Julie and her staff at their new home located at 4260 Atlantic Avenue. They work diligently to prepare and protect our city’s history through photos and artifacts. This is a great place to volunteer or simply spend some alone time learning about our city’s rich history.

Stay Involved! Rae
