We have an exciting announcement for the loyal and esteemed Signal Tribune readers: we are bringing back an old series of ours with the hopes of connecting with you all more.
Formerly known as “Pictures from the People,” our Community Frames series encourages our readers to view their world in a new light, get out of their comfort zone and share their photography skills (or lack thereof) with their neighbors.
One of our favorite things to do at the Signal Tribune is to share this space with our readers. While we have been receiving a steady influx of op-eds from the community on a variety of important issues, we also want this to be a space of fun and creativity. That’s the hope with Community Frames.
On the first Friday of each month, we will announce a specific theme for photo submissions and open submissions for two and a half weeks. Our personal favorites will be printed in the Tribune on the last Friday of the month, while at least one submission per person will be posted in an online carousel on our website sigtrib.com. Take it as seriously or silly as you want. Use a film camera or your shitty old phone’s camera. Just get out in your community and push yourself!
August’s Theme
If summer in Long Beach had a color, it would be blue. At least that’s what we decided during our August planning meeting. From the blue skies and aquarium visits to the ocean waves at our beaches (that water is technically a little green, but you get it). We want to see your take on the color blue, whether it’s in nature, architecture or a decoration in your favorite local shop, show us how blue is popping up in your life.
The deadline for this month is Aug. 25 at 11:59 p.m.
The rules:
- Submissions can contain a maximum of five photos.
- Along with photos, please attach your full name and neighborhood. If you don’t want certain information printed in the paper or online, please specify in your email.
- Submissions must be sent to Newspaper@SignalTribune.com via email by the stated deadline to be considered.
- Send submissions with the subject line COMMUNITY FRAMES
- No selfies. Please, no selfies.
- Captions are not required, but are preferred; context of where a photo was taken and where, for example, or any flourishes you want to add. If there are no captions, we will write our own and are permitted to take humorous liberties.
- Absolutely, positively, never ever send us AI-generated photos.
