Community Hospital of Long Beach (CHLB) recently announced the new course dates for its Diabetes 101 education program that runs through June 2009 for individuals who have recently been diagnosed with diabetes. This four-week intensive program teaches participants the ABCs of living with diabetes and is led by Linda Basile, RN, Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE).
Saturday Diabetes 101 classes in January will be offered on Saturday, January 17 and 24 from 9:30am to 2pm. Lunch will be served. The Saturday classes are limited to 35 people. To reserve a space, call (562) 494-0764.
The first session of Diabetes 101 will begin on Wednesday, February 4 and will continue every Wednesday through February 25 from 2pm to 3pm and 5:30pm to 7pm. The next four-week courses are: March 18 and 25 and April 1 and 8; April 29, May 6, 13 and 20; and June 10, 17, 24 and July 1. There is a two-week break between each new four-week session.
Course topics include: “So, You’ve Been Diagnosed Diabetic: What Does it Mean?;” “You Mean I Can Eat that Too!” — Nutrition & Weight Management; “Steps to a Healthy Heart and Body” — Fitness, Exercise and Foot Care; and “There is More to Diabetes than You Can Imagine” — Other Complications of the Disease.
All of the Diabetes 101 sessions will take place in Conference Room 3 on the “B” level of the hospital and are free to participants. Reservations are required by calling (562) 494-0764.
Diabetes 101 is part of the Family Wellness at CHLB program introduced onto the CHLB campus in January 2006. Family Wellness at CHLB offers assessments, preventive services, education and health promotion activities, as well as chronic disease management to CHLB employees and members of the surrounding community.
