Eighth District Councilmember Al Austin and the Long Beach Office of Sustainability will host a community meeting featuring experts from the nonprofit Global Green USA to discuss a vision for the Market Street corridor and surrounding community.
The community meeting will take place in the cafeteria at Jane Addams Elementary School, 5320 Pine Ave., on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
Global Green staff will present the findings of a two-day assessment of the Market Street corridor from the Los Angeles River to Atlantic Avenue and the surrounding community. The assessment is the result of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Sustainable Communities grant that Long Beach received for sustainable neighborhood planning.
The planning assistance is based on the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Neighborhood Development standard, which provides a nationally recognized method for creating neighborhoods that are walkable, bikeable, resource-efficient and equitable. After presenting findings, the Global Green team will request community input on enhancements to the Market Street community that could be incorporated into future plans and upgrades.
