Scott Apel, a graduate of Cal State Long Beach who earned his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the university, has been appointed to the position of vice president of administration and finance. President Jane Close Conoley made the appointment to Apel, who formerly served as the campus’s associate vice president of human-resources management.
“Scott meets and exceeds the priorities of the campus in breadth of experience in all the areas included in the Division of Administration and Finance portfolio,” Conoley said. “He has been an objective and informed adviser, cares deeply about the success of our diverse student body and our university, and can take on daunting challenges.”
In his new position, Apel serves as the chief financial officer for the campus and advises Conoley, Provost Brian Jersky and other senior-level administrators on all campus-wide financial and resource matters, fiscal planning and policy, budget, space and facilities planning/management, oversight of the University Police Department, human resources and other key administrative functions. He also works in close coordination with three of CSULB’s auxiliary organizations, the 49er Foundation, the Research Foundation and the 49er Shops.
