The California State University Long Beach (CSULB) Department of
Theatre Arts and its graduate-production arm, the California Repertory
Company (Cal Rep), have selected and announced the 2015-2016 season of
productions, all of which will be performed in theatrical venues on campus.
Cal Rep performances will move from the Royal Theatre aboard the
Queen Mary and return to the University and Studio Theaters, located on the
southeast corner of CSULB, throughout its tour. Both the Cal Rep and University
Players— the undergraduate theatre company— season will run from
Sept. 25 through May 7, 2016, and includes three new works and a musical.
“We are very excited to be bringing all of our productions home to the
campus this fall,” said Anne D’Zmura, head of directing for the CSULB
theatre department. “We welcome everyone back to our three-theatre complex
to celebrate and experience our Cal Rep and University Players productions.”
Cal Rep will open the 2015-2016 season with S/He & Me: A Theatrical
Cabaret, written by and starring Alexandra Billings and directed by Joanne
Gordon, followed by Caryl Churchill’s drama Far Away, directed by Trevor
Biship. The group will close its season with Nancy Bell and Peter Grandbois’
Mutual Consent, directed by Anne D’Zmura.
The University Players will start its season with Shakespeare In The Raw:
Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare and directed by Rob Clare, followed
by EPIC: #ethnocentricCRAP, directed by Anna Steers. The spring
season will start with Rent, written by Jonathan Larson and directed by
Joanne Gordon, followed by Jorge Ignacio Cortiñas’s Bird In The Hand,
directed by Shanti Pillai, with the final production being A Cool Dip In The
Barren Saharan Crick, written by Kia Corthron and directed by Jaye Austin
Williams.
Performances in the University Theatre are Wednesday through Sunday at
8pm. General-admission tickets are $25, while tickets for students, military
and seniors, ages 55 and older, are $20 with a valid ID. The University Theatre
is attached to the Theatre Arts Building in the CSULB South Campus,
which is accessible via West Campus Drive.
General-admission tickets for both the Studio Theatre and the Players
Theatre are $17, while tickets for students, military and seniors are $14. Performances
in the Studio Theatre are Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm, while
performances in the Players Theatre has the same schedule, except ending
on Sunday. The Studio Theatre and Players Theatre are also on the CSULB
South Campus in the Theatre Arts Building.
