Delius hosts unusual event mix this weekend

What do you get when you cross: a new, blue energy drink inspired by the perceived attributes of a particular region in SoCal; a recently relocated, gourmet restaurant that’s garnering rave reviews; owners of Ferraris and other exotic cars; the most widely read Chinese auto magazine in Southern California; and the daughters of the stars of a reality T.V. show? Let’s just say a Delius buffet brunch to beat all others, happening this Saturday.
The latest thirst-quenchers to scoot over Red Bull and Rock Star on the market shelf are the OC Energy Drinks, a line of beverages which were designed to be “healthy, perform well and taste great,” according to the product’s Web site. “Our label sits as the crowning achievement of harmony by balancing the untamed spirit of bright, bold, intense colors with an attitude of three black silhouettes, modeled by real OC people, not giving each other the time of day,” according to the site.
Orange County women were chosen as the drink line’s spokespersons, six females who were picked out of 50 local applicants based on scholastic achievements, environmental concerns, contribution to the community, appearance and attitude. These spokespersons have been named “The OC Angels” and, coincidentally(?), four of them are regulars on the hit reality show “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” (which returns to Bravo in December). Louis Knickerbocker, an ex-husband of one of the “housewives” started the drink line.
Mariano Fusco of Fusion Solutions of Signal Hill was commissioned to work on the project. “We designed and developed the entire company for Louis,” said Fusco. “Everything was up and running, and then Louis passed away.” Fusco then became the CEO of OC Energy Drinks.
“The spirit of Orange County captured the essence of what we wanted our energy drink and water to be–trendy, stylish, and with an overall attitude,” the Web site states.
“Keeping with the spirit of the OC, we separated ourselves from the rest by introducing a revolutionary, stylish plastic bottle design in the shape of a dumbbell.”
Five percent of the income generated by OC Energy Drink sales is pledged to T.A.P.S., a service organization created to help families of fallen service members cope with their grief and struggles.
Delius restaurant reopened July 6 at its Signal Hill location after executive chef Louise Solzman and her husband and general manager/ sommelier Dave enjoyed a successful ten-year run at its old Long Beach Boulevard location. Delius’s menus focus on new culinary trends and seasonal foods, and they will be showcasing this cuisine at an open-house lunch buffet this Saturday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Two signature drinks, Go-go Grape and Blue Bayou, which feature the OC Energy Drink will be offered as well.
Bring your Ferrari because not only will you be in good company (members of Ferrari Club of America and Ferrari Owners Club will be there with cars in tow, so to speak), but also the restaurant was designed with the exotic car in mind. “I suggested the involvement with Ferrari because I am the contractor who did the interior of Delius,” said Lou Gaudio. “I’m an investor in the restaurant, and it’s a perfect place for a Ferrari gathering. We designed the parking lot to accommodate Ferraris.”
Teaming with the Ferrari clubs (to form the only affiliation here that adheres to any apparent logic) is Autoworld, the only auto magazine in the U.S. that is published bilingually in both Chinese and English.
Delius restaurant is located at 2951 Cherry Avenue. Price for the buffet is $20 per guest and is all inclusive. For more info, call the restaurant at (562) 426-0694.
