A man was fatally shot in Long Beach in the Longwood neighborhood on the night of Monday, June 7, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Homicide detectives believe that the victim was approached by two unknown suspects and was confronted at gunpoint based on evidence from a preliminary investigation.
At least one of the two suspects fired multiple shots, striking the victim, a statement by LBPD said.
Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of West Forhan Street at 10:34 p.m. after a report came in of gunshots heard in the area.
The officers located the man on the sidewalk near the Long Beach Boulevard and West Forhan Street intersection.
The victim had apparent gunshot wounds to his upper torso and lower torso, according to an LBPD statement. Officers on scene rendered life-saving aid until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and determined that the victim had died from his injuries.
Detectives continue to work to determine a motive for the shooting and to identify the suspects.
To date, the two suspects are each only described as possibly male wearing dark clothing and masks.
The suspects were last seen running westbound on West Forhan Street from Long Beach Boulevard, according to LBPD.
An investigator with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will work to identify the victim and notify the next of kin.
