I live in East L A. and take my two rescue mutts to Rosie’s Dog Beach [in Long Beach] on Sundays.
Two weeks ago cannon shots terrified my two, and they raced from wa- ter’s edge to the parking lot and beyond. One returned in two hours. The other one was gone, and I was bereft.
Returned at dusk Sunday night— no sign of her. Went back on Monday morning and posted over 20 signs in the neighborhood across from the beach.
Went back Monday night— still no sign of her. Tuesday morning, the phone rings and a woman named Mara tells me she saw Mindy racing off. I get there at 9:30am and start looking. A postman, Chinese gentleman with glasses and a goatee, tells me where she ran off to. Walking, driving, calling her name and nothing. At 4pm, still looking, I see Mr. Postman again, he says a neighbor named Harry saw her cross Livingston [Drive].
I drive through there and, like a miracle, I see her standing on a lawn. Shout her name, and we are reunited. After [that], I drove around and was thrilled to take down all the signs.
I would never have known to look for her across Livingston. Because of the kindness of strangers and fellow dog lovers, my emotional breakdown was averted and the three of us are happy again.
Heaven did hear my prayer and delivered my beloved Mindy.
Thank you, Mara, Harry and Mr. Postman. Now I want to move to Belmont Shore. It’s where I feel I belong.
I made donations to several animal-rights groups when I was told Mara did not want the reward for calling me.
With gratitude and thanks.
