Having a “bad hair day” this holiday season? Know someone who is? Give the gift of “good hair days” with a gift certificate from Donato’s Hair Salon.
Celebrating their 13th anniversary, Donato’s has been serving men, women and children of all ages and seniors with special needs since 1996. Individually, the members of the Donato’s staff have been working with some of the same clients for decades.
“We’ve had some of the same clients since the ’60s. We are now providing services to the third generation of the same families,” says salon owner Leah Farris, who explained that finding the right stylist is about finding a good salon and forming a relationship. The relationships between the stylists and their clients is the focus at Donato’s, and the expert staff goes out of its way to accommodate the special needs of their clients.
“We specialize in every area of hair care and use that knowledge to really spoil our ladies,” said Farris. “We consider them family; we care about them, they care about us, and they also care about each other.”
A graduate of the Marinello School of Beauty, Farris has competed in beauty shows and given lectures to share her expertise. She also trained in Beverly Hills with Charles Ross and completed advanced coloring techniques at Clairol’s Institute of Hair Color.
Not afraid to branch out, Farris hints that the salon will be offering exciting new products and services after the first of the year. “It’s going to be fun to provide our clients with new ways of making them look and feel just a little more glamorous.”
Other members of the Donato’s staff include David Antunes, Laurine McCaw and Karen Partee.
David has worked in the Long Beach area for more than 30 years, previously owning Burnett Studio Hair Designs before he worked at Magic Mirror in Bixby Knolls. David specializes in fine and thinning hair and enjoys helping his clients with cuts, color, perms and custom hairpieces.
Laurine is the former owner of Laurine’s Hair Fashion in Signal Hill. She joined Donato’s four years ago and specializes in color, perms, and haircuts. Karen, also formerly of Laurine’s, has 20 years of experience and focuses on all facets of hairstyling for African-American women.
Besides the myriad services currently available, Donato’s also creates customized full or partial hairpieces made from 100-percent human hair. The semi-permanent pieces are virtually undetectable and can withstand showers and swimming.
The salon also proudly carries Donato’s Secrets–their own line of hair products made with herbs, vitamins, minerals as well as fruit and flower extracts.
Donato’s Hair Salon is located at 4102 Orange Avenue, #114 in Long Beach. They can be reached by calling (562) 428-4000. Business hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
