Downtown Long Beach residents, commercial-property owners and businesses may apply for one of 10 vacancies that become available on the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA) Board of Directors, effective Oct. 1. The deadline to apply is June 19.
“Unquestionably, DTLB’s (Downtown Long Beach) pool of influential thinkers and creators has grown and changed our downtown, and…the Board of the DLBA has changed with it,” said Michelle Molina, DLBA chair-elect and chair of the Board Development Committee (BDC). “The Board has a new vibrancy that is embracing the idea that it’s time to stop just talking about how great DTLB is or can be and actually make ideas tangible. It is both an honor and privilege that I have the chance to lead that type of change.”
The DLBA Board is composed of members from various neighborhoods throughout DTLB. Open positions for two-year terms are available for:
• Business owner, East Village Area
• Business owner, Pine Avenue Area
• Business owner, Waterfront Area
• Commercial-property owner, PBID Standard District
• Commercial property owner, PBID Premium District
• Residential property owner, PBID
• Resident, Council District 2
In addition to the abovementioned positions, which will be included on the annual slate and sent to stakeholders for ratification later this summer, the DLBA Board will also appoint three at-large positions, for which any downtown stakeholder who pays an assessment into either improvement district qualifies.
Following these submittals, applicants are invited to interview with the BDC, who then recommends a slate of candidates to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors before asking DLBA stakeholders to ratify with a mail-in process.
