Early-childhood education symposium to focus on outdoor play

The City of Long Beach’s Early Childhood Education Committee will conduct its Eighth Annual Early Care and Education Symposium on Saturday, March 12 at Houssel’s Forum in the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, with a presentation by Eric Nelson, MA.
The symposium, titled “Back to Nature: The Power of Outdoor Play,” will provide community members, early-education teachers, and other stakeholders with information regarding reclaiming the outdoors through active play and developing skills for cultivating and sustaining outdoor programs and environments for young children and their families. Leadership awards will be presented by A Voice For Long Beach Children. More than 300 attendees are expected.
In 2003, the City of Long Beach demonstrated its commitment to the well-being of its children and their families with the creation of “Preparing Long Beach Children for the Future: A Community Plan for Shaping the Early Care and Education System (2003-2008).” In accordance with The Community Plan, the Long Beach Early Care and Education Committee, a volunteer group of professionals, convenes an annual symposium on early childhood education.
