Long Beach’s El Dorado Nature Center staff is welcoming the arrival of four baby great horned owls. A pair of owls living along the Center’s two-mile trail produced three females and one male owl ready to jump out of the nest in the next few days.
The Center’s staff is closing access to the two-mile trail for the safety of patrons as well as the owls. Once the baby owls jump from the nest and are on the ground, the parents will attack anyone who comes near them. In addition, federal law protects nesting raptors and makes it illegal to interfere with their breeding.
El Dorado Nature Center visitors are asked to observe posted signs and to avoid the two-mile trail until further notice.
