Event to provide info, assistance for people with disabilities

The public is invited to join the Citizens Advisory Commission on Disabilities (CACoD) in a celebration recognizing October as Disability Awareness Month on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 11am to 2pm at the Long Beach Convention Center.
The celebration will feature health screenings, financial advice and information from agencies that work with people with disabilities, including DOR, Easter Seals, Veteran’s Administration, Social Security Administration, Disability Rights California, IRS, Harbor Regional Center, Disabled Resources Center, Long Beach Mental Health and more.
St. Mary Medical Center and Community Hospital of Long Beach will provide health screenings. The IRS will give a special presentation on Earned Income Tax Credit and other tax benefits related to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 that are specifically geared toward people with disabilities and the elderly. There will also be a special performance by AbilityFirst.
