Greenly Art Space, 2698 Junipero Ave., is now hosting the exhibit Portraits of the Soul, which features self-portraits from members of various communities of service around the world.
Participants include: International Sanctuary in India, a nonprofit that empowers survivors of human trafficking with social enterprise opportunities; inCOMMON Community Development in Omaha, Nebraska, a nonprofit working to minimize the effects of poverty; Word Made Flesh in Argentina, a nonprofit serving abandoned and vulnerable youth on the streets of Buenos Aires; Precious Lamb Preschool in Long Beach, a nonprofit committed to providing children and families suffering homelessness with free education and care; Kinship Center in Orange County, a nonprofit agency dedicated to the creation, preservation and support of foster, adoptive and relative families for children who need them; and David Burcham Elementary School, Rm. 22 in Long Beach.
The show was envisioned and curated by Kimberly Hocking, artist and co-owner of Greenly Art Space, to encourage awareness of communities of service, and to build bridges of understanding. “Self-portraits provide a window into the soul of the artist and help us to understand more about the places we come from and who we are,” Hocking said. “This show provides an opportunity to witness a wide range of self-portraits and to celebrate the tapestry of unique expression building community.”
The exhibit will continue through the end of March and can be viewed during regular gallery hours (Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11am to 2pm), by appointment, or at GreenlyArtSpace.com.
