The City of Long Beach’s annual Juneteenth Celebration will take place Saturday, June 13 from 11am to 2:30pm at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, 1950 Lemon Ave. Juneteenth is memorialized as the end of slavery in the United States.
The event is hosted by: 6th District Councilmember Dee Andrews; the Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation & Marine; the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services; St. Mary Medical Center; Long Beach Branch NAACP; and the Long Beach Boys & Girls Club.
“I love coming together with all nationalities to celebrate this very important part of America’s history,” Andrews said. “We have a big family-style barbecue picnic.”
The celebration will showcase performances by local R&B and funk bands. It will also include free hamburgers and hot dogs, an annual domino tournament and youth soccer tournaments.
The celebration is a free, open-air festival, so attendees are encouraged to provide their own chairs and blankets for seating. There will be a health pavilion sponsored by St. Mary Medical Center that will include free health screenings, as well as a children’s area with water games, jumpers, arts & crafts and more.
