The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) announced that felony charges were filed on March 28 against a man in connection with multiple robberies at local businesses.
Between December 21, 2016 and March 12, 2017, a male suspect armed with a handgun entered several businesses between the hours of 7:30 pm and 11:30pm, demanded money from the employees and fled with cash before officers arrived. None of the victims were physically injured during any of the robberies, according to the LBPD.
The dates and locations where the incidents occurred are provided below:
• December 21, 2016 – 1900 block of East Del Amo Boulevard
• January 24, 2017 — 5900 block of East Spring Street
• February 6, 2017 — 2000 block of East Carson Boulevard
• February 24, 2017 — 1900 block of East Wardlow Road
• March 2, 2017 – 3900 block of East Ocean Boulevard
• March 3, 2017 — 1900 block of East Del Amo Boulevard
• March 9, 2017 — 5500 block of East 7th Street
• March 12, 2017 — 3600 block of East 7th Street
Throughout the investigation, detectives uncovered similarities that led to a description of the suspect’s vehicle, which investigators used to identify the suspect.
On March 23, detectives arrested 32-year-old Adam Randolph Powell of Los Alamitos for his involvement in the commercial robberies. Detectives also determined that Powell was on parole for robbery. Pursuant to the arrest, detectives served a search warrant at his Los Alamitos residence, where the suspect’s vehicle was impounded/towed and evidence related to the robberies was recovered.
On March 27, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. On March 28, the District Attorney’s Office filed 10 felony counts against Powell. He is currently being held in the Long Beach City Jail with a bail set at $1,450,000.
