The fifth annual Long Beach International Tamales Festival will return to crown the year’s best tamale on Dec. 7.

Long Beach residents can enjoy a wide range of tamales and entertainment at the Scottish Rite Center from 1 to 7 p.m.

Organized by the local multimedia outlet Playa Larga, the event is devoted to celebrating the diverse tamal-making restaurants, pop-ups, home chefs and food trucks around Long Beach. The festival will include music, food, drinks, performances, a best homemade tamale contest and more.

“Traditions are important as they are what makes us a culture; how we pass along our stories and what makes us who we are as a community,” said festival co-organizer Sal Flores in a public statement. “This year we are focusing on supporting our Latino community, our continued resilience, and the importance of keeping traditions alive to share with people from different backgrounds.”

The annual event aims to bring everyone to the table, from all cultures and walks of life, showcasing just a glimpse of the City’s diverse Latin food scene.

Tickets to attend the event are available to purchase here. Restaurants, food vendors and retail vendors interested in participating in the festival can visit the Playa Larga website to apply.
