The July 2 First Fridays event will kick off the Independence Day holiday weekend in Bixby Knolls with a blast of art, music, and community. The festivities will include fire dancing from Sirena Serpentina, car art, music by The Potential Lunatics, food, beverages, Mike the Poet, experimental sound work, vintage vinyl, a farm stand, Shakespeare, and drums.
Continuing traditions that started last month, attendees are no longer just spectators, but active participants. People are encouraged to bring something to stick onto the “Leave Something Behind” collage. Post a penny, photo, leaf, hairpin, cuff link, heirloom, etc. to create a unique abstract collection. Participants are also encouraged to bring their creativity for a community art piece for which they pick up a pen and draw, sign their name, write a poem, or otherwise leave their mark.
The First Fridays Information Table will be available from 6:30pm to 8pm on the northwest corner of Bixby Road and Atlantic Avenue, providing info about First Fridays and local businesses, maps, and restaurant recommendations. The Big Red Bus will transport participants from venue to venue along Atlantic Avenue beginning at 6:45pm.
