The Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association (BKBIA) is promoting the arrival of its yearly directory; 10,000 copies of the 2007 Bixby Knolls Business Directory and Shopper’s Guide were sent door-to-door this week to most of the residents of the 90807 zip code.
The directory is produced annually by the Signal Tribune newspaper for the BKBIA. The book is free and serves as a district phone book that spotlights and promotes businesses, services and restaurants in the Bixby Knolls area of Long Beach. Each business in the district is listed in the directory twice–alphabetically as well as categorically-for easy use.
In addition to the 10,000 delivered to residents, copies of the book are scheduled to be delivered to BKBIA-member businesses later this week.
“We’re proud of the product,” said Neena Strichart, publisher of the Signal Tribune. “The size and the content are very user-friendly. It’s something that people can use in their everyday lives.”
The directory is updated each year and is the only comprehensive listing of its kind that compiles exclusively Bixby Knolls area businesses. The general boundaries for the area included are Long Beach Boulevard to the west, Atlantic Avenue to the east, 46th Street to the north and the 405 Freeway to the south.
“This is a close-knit community and we know that people, residents and businesses alike, want to see it thrive,” said Susan Cooper, executive director of the BKBIA. “Our aim with the directory is to provide a means for connecting residents with their local businesses.”
The directory will also be available for free distribution at some Bixby Knolls businesses, including Baja Sonora, Café Bixby, the office of J. Brent Dunn Company, EH and S Insurance Services, Four Olives Café, Farmers and Merchants Bank, FreeSpirit Yoga, Howard CDSM, Jiffy Lube, Mod-L-Mania, the office of Phillip C. Solomon, DDS, THOR Antiques and Too the Root Beauty Supply.
The public is also welcomed to stop by the offices of either the Signal Tribune newspaper, located at 2669 Myrtle Avenue in Signal Hill, or the BKBIA, located at 4313 Atlantic Avenue in Bixby Knolls, to pick up a free copy.
Non-member businesses are also encouraged to carry copies of the book for distribution and can do so by contacting the BKBIA.
“The directory is a great way to enable people to support Bixby Knolls businesses and thereby promote the livelihood of their own neighborhood,” Cooper said. “It’s a winning proposition for our whole community. We’re very proud of the efforts of everyone involved.”
