FOLBA gathers pet lovers to Walk for the Animals

folba-walk.jpgThe Friends of Long Beach Animals is hosting its 8th Annual Walk for the Animals Saturday, September 29 at Heartwell Park, located at 5100 East Carson Boulevard in Long Beach. This is the largest fundraiser for the nonprofit organization, which promotes spaying and neutering, adoption and humane education.
The event is a 2K-to-5K walk beginning at 10 a.m., followed by games, demonstrations, contests, and an interfaith blessing of the animals, sponsored by hautedogs.org.
“Clergy members from various faiths come out to bless the animals people bring” , said Friends of Long Beach member Margo Carter.
Last year, nearly 600 people attended the walk where they enjoyed music, contests and booths filled with prizes, and this year doesn’t seem to be much different.
“There’s going to be vendors, a pet costume contest, music, and we have a country-western theme,” Carter said. “People will be surprised how much fun they are going to have.
Registration for the walk begins at 9 a.m.
Proceeds from the walk go toward pet medications, spaying and neutering of cats and dogs as well as pet adoption.
