Rancho Los Cerritos will present a night of music Sunday, August 21 as folk singer Ross Altman performs “Hard Travelin’: Songs and Struggles of the Great Depression.”
From October 24, 1929 to September 1, 1939, from the stock market crash to the rise of fascism, from Tin Pan alley to Highway 66, from the sign on Woody Guthrie’s guitar to W.H. Auden’s greatest poem, from the Dust bowl to the peach bowl, from Marian Anderson and Billie Holiday at home to the Abraham Lincoln Brigade in Spain, from the bread lines to the New Deal, the songs of the Great Depression weave a social tapestry of America during a decade of hard times and revolutionary change. The public is invited to join folk singer Ross Altman for a musical journey through the 1930s.
For comfort, the Rancho encourages attendees to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Picnic dinners are also welcome during the concerts. No pets allowed.
Ross Altman will perform from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m.
