The Found Theatre will present fundraising performances of its current show Deadly Appliances to benefit Interval House Crisis Shelters & Centers for Victims of Domestic Violence and Woman To Woman Recovery Center. One-hundred percent of proceeds from ticket sales will go to these vital organizations, whose funding has been dramatically impacted by the California budget crisis. Refreshments will be provided.
The production is a new version of a classic Cynthia Galles script that explores a profound social issue with the Found’s usual outrageous humor. There’s more to major appliances than meets the eye. Directed by Lauren Nave, Deadly Appliances features Virginia DeMoss reprising the role of Karla, the beleaguered housewife who can’t seem to control the dishwasher, the microwave…or even the dependable Maytag.
The performance for Interval House will be Sunday, Nov. 8 at 7pm. Opened in 1979, Interval House is an award-winning domestic-violence agency providing comprehensive services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in over 60 different languages. More than 99 percent of Interval House staff and advocates are multilingual, ethnically diverse, and have been personally affected by domestic violence. Tickets are $20; call (562) 594-9492 or visit www.intervalhouse.org.
The show benefiting Woman To Woman Recovery Center will be Thursday, Nov. 19 at 8pm. The mission of Woman To Woman Recovery Center (National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Long Beach) is to reduce the incidence and prevalence of the diseases of alcoholism and drug addiction, and to reduce the effects of domestic violence on its victims. Tickets are $25; call (562) 426-8262 or go to www.womantowomanrecovery.org.
The Found Theatre is located at 599 Long Beach Blvd.
