Free shuttle service to LGB offered during holiday season

The holiday season may be just a bit less stressful for locals this year, as the City of Long Beach, Long Beach Transit and the Long Beach Airport (LGB) have joined forces to provide a free direct shuttle between LGB and the Metro Blue Line’s Wardlow Station. At a press conference Wednesday morning at the train stop, officials said they foresee the so-called “Blue Line 2 Airline” service alleviating traffic congestion in the area during the busy shopping and travel season.
“Residents or visitors will be able to come right here to the Wardlow station— the Blue Line station— and take a free shuttle every 30 minutes from here to the Long Beach Airport,” said Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia. “This is a service that we haven’t had in the past or hasn’t been a direct connection like this one from the Blue Line to the airport, and so we’re really excited about this.”
Seventh District Councilmember Roberto Uranga, who was also present at the event, said the Wardlow station sits right in the middle of his district and that the airport is positioned at one of its borders.
“So, this is a great opportunity for the 7th-district residents and the businesses that are here to take advantage of an opportunity that is going to be good for them when they want to travel out of town or when they’re coming into town […],” Uranga said. “One of the proudest moments that I have is actually being here to launch this program.”
The shuttle will stop at the Wardlow station on Pacific Place and at LGB on the outer curb in front of the main terminal. It will operate from Saturday, Nov. 18 until Sunday, Jan. 7, from 5am to 8pm. It will depart Wardlow station at 20 and 50 minutes past the hour and will depart the airport at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour.
