Free workshop to address caretaker issues

Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Long Beach and AARP will bring a “Prepare to Care” workshop to Long Beach on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 2:30pm at the Alpert Jewish Community Center, 3801 E. Willow St.
It is offered free of charge and is open to the public.
The workshop will feature topics from AARP’s “Prepare to Care: A Resource Guide for Families,” including how to have vital conversations with older family members and loved ones, organizing important documents and assessing loved ones’ needs, among others. Representatives from various Long Beach-based senior serviceswill also be on hand to answer specific questions attendees may have.
“Caring for someone you love is one of the most important roles you can play,” said AARP California State Director Nancy McPherson. “But the reality is that caregiving combined with work and other family obligations can be stressful. That is why it’s pivotal that caregivers get the resources and support they need, not only to take care of their loved one but also themselves.”
Reservations are requested so that there are ample materials for all. Respite care for loved ones will be provided by JFCS social-work interns. Those interested in the respite care should request it when calling (562) 427-7916 for reservations.
