From the Ground Up

Longfellow Elementary School’s playground transforms itself every Sunday into the setting for Long Beach’s newest farmers market. Made possible through a grant from the Connected Corridor Project, the California Heights Certified Farmers Market is open Sundays from 9am to 2pm at the northwest corner of California Avenue and Bixby Road.
Managed by Kelli Johnson, the market is the site for booths of fresh fruit and vegetables, gift items and local vendors sharing their wares and services. “It’s all about sustainability, environmental stewardship, community building and civic engagement,” said Johnson.
