Friends of Signal Hill Cultural Arts (FOSHCA) has announced that Dyana Andersen has been selected as its first Artist of the Quarter for 2009 and her outstanding fused glass works are now on display in the Signal Hill Library, 1770 East Hill Street in Signal Hill through the end of March.
Andersen also received the People’s Choice Award at FOSHCA’s Show & Sell 2008 Art Exhibition in October, having been selected by those attending the event as the best artist in the show.
A longtime resident of Signal Hill, she earned associate in arts degrees in fashion merchandising and interior design from Brooks College and Long Beach City College, respectively. She formed her own company, DyNamic Glass by Dyana, after discovering a beautiful dichroic pendant while on vacation in Hawaii. “At the time, I did not know that I was holding my future in my hand,” she said. “But after learning all I could about fused glass, taking classes and building a studio in my Signal Hill home, DyNamic Glass was born. I have now been creating all my handmade glass and one-of-a-kind designs since 2006.”
Dyana creates two lines of fused glass treasures: “In the Home” which includes flared bowls and platters, square plates and coasters; and her “Jewelry” line, which includes unique custom designs with specialty-cut fused glass, sterling silver, silver-plated, and 14-karat gold-filled components.
“Each piece can go through one to four firings in the kiln from temperatures from 1225 degrees Fahrenheit to 1435 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on the effect I am trying to achieve, with grinding, drilling, sanding and other processes in between each firing, with the final product being distinctive to DyNamic Glass,” says Andersen.
