Eighth District Councilmember Rae Gabelich will be working with several businesses in her district for a holiday toy drive to benefit local children at the Carmelitos Housing Community. Operated by the County of Los Angeles, Carmelitos is composed of 700 units of family and senior housing, an award-winning nursery and community garden, and on-site educational enrichment and family resource centers.
“The community has responded with overwhelming generosity each year we have collected toys,” Gabelich said. “This year is a little more difficult for everyone, but for hundreds of kids who live here in our community, the gifts provided through this toy drive are the only presents they will receive for Christmas.”
The participating businesses that will have collection boxes available for donations for kids of all ages are:

• Bella Cosa Boutique, 3803 Atlantic Avenue
• Café Bixby & Pizza, 3900 Atlantic Avenue
• Capretto (formerly Il Poggio), 3819 Atlantic Avenue
• The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, 4105 Atlantic Avenue
• The Factory Gastrobar, 4020 Atlantic Avenue
• Nino’s Italian Restaurant, 3853 Atlantic Avenue
• Pixie Toys, 3930 Atlantic Avenue
• Roy Robbins Gifts and Stationery, 4244 Atlantic Avenue
Donations of unwrapped, new toys will be accepted until Tuesday, Dec. 21. There will also be a collection box at the Expo Building, 4321 Atlantic Ave., for First Fridays on Dec. 3 between 6:30pm and 9pm, and for the Bixby Knolls Holiday Bazaar on Sunday, Dec. 12 from 10am to 2:30pm.
