Garcia leads delegation to D.C. with Federal Legislation Committee

[aesop_image imgwidth=”500px” img=”http://www.signaltribunenewspaper.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Screen-Shot-2016-04-21-at-3.10.39-PM.png” align=”center” lightbox=”on” captionposition=”center”] Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia led a delegation to Washington, D.C this week, along with two members of the Federal Legislation Committee— Committee Chair Rex Richardson and Councilmember Stacy Mungo— as well as representatives of Long Beach Transit, the Port of Long Beach and the Long Beach Water Department. The delegation met with federal officials on subjects important to Long Beach, including transportation funding, economic development, housing and the Army Corps of Engineers’ East San Pedro Bay Ecosystem Restoration Study, among other issues, according to Garcia’s chief of staff, Daniel Brezenoff.
“Meeting face-to-face with federal officials is critical to protecting our city’s interests and ensuring adequate funding for important projects,” Garcia said. “I want to thank the members of the Federal Legislation Committee and our partners from the Port, Water Department and Transit for their hard work and advocacy on behalf of Long Beach.”
Garcia, committee members and city staff met with White House officials, several Federal agencies— including the Army Corps— and members of Congress. Funding for transportation infrastructure, transitioning from the loss of C-17 manufacturing and support for high-risk youth are high on the list of priorities, according to Brezenoff. Also on the agenda are housing and labor force training.
