Neighborhoods, parks and businesses will be lively and active for the 40th National Night Out on Tuesday.

Signal Hill and Long Beach will join the other 38 million residents and 17,000 communities from across the United States in local parties to build trust, make friends and increase public safety.

Local police departments will be visiting parks and neighborhoods throughout Long Beach to meet residents, answer questions and host giveaways and games. Residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on their porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors or trek to local parks.

Signal Hill residents can head to Signal Hill Park to meet members of the police department, play games, enter giveaways, watch presentations and listen to music. National Night Out will be celebrated at Signal Hill Park (2175 Cherry Ave.) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
