The Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA) launched a Capital Improvement and Beautification Grant program designed to provide financial support to associations, organizations or entities interested in creating and implementing physical and beautification projects within the Downtown area. “The DLBA’s Capital Improvement Task Force is excited to make this program available to support community organizations interested in improving the Downtown neighborhoods,” said Cory Kristoff, DLBA board member and chair of the DLBA’s Capital Improvement Projects Task Force (CIP TF).
Over the last few years, the CIP TF has led or contributed to a variety of beautification projects, ranging from colorful LED light treatments and festive holiday décor to landscape programs and the East Village Alleyway Beautification Project.
“The DLBA’s contribution to Long Beach’s Neighborhood Partners Program grant allowed us to take what was a visual blight in our neighborhood and create a warm and inviting pedestrian walkway,” said Michael Mosselli, president of the East Village Association. “Thanks to the existence of this and similar programs, community organizations like ours are able to take an active role in improving our Downtown neighborhoods.”
A 100 to 200 word abstract describing the proposed project is required to apply for the Capital Improvement and Beautification Grant. Abstracts are due by 5pm on February 1, 2012. The CIP TF will work with City of Long Beach staff to determine which proposals will be invited to submit the full grant application. Funding shall be made available to any state-recognized public, private, or nonprofit entity seeking to fund applicable projects in Downtown Long Beach.
