When Steve Gregory worked at a nearby bar, he paid close attention and learned how to make people happy. As a result, his own business, the Green Dog Grill, has a rich, diverse atmosphere. The bar’s visual appeal comes from the neon beer signs which give the bar its mood lighting.
The Green Dog is a neighborhood bar, although people do come from other cities just for the Stone Brewery selections. All ages occupy the place, but customers are generally 30 to 50 years old, and there’s music for all, as the jukebox never discriminates.
Gregory provides the most popular arcade games, making sure there is a little something for everyone, like Bowl-A-Rama.
During happy hour, domestic beer and well drinks are only $2. There are also $2 burgers on Tuesdays and $1 tacos on Fridays. If that’s not enough, the kitchen is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with plenty of other specials made to order.
Annual events include St. Patty’s Day and the Super Bowl. An avid fan, Gregory adorns his walls with Jets memorabilia. During the football season, he invites everyone to catch the game while sitting next to the fireplace with a hearty bowl of hot soup.
Festivities are in the works for The Green Dog’s six-year anniversary on September 12. So, come celebrate the original Dog of Long Beach.
The Green Dog Grill is located at 1115 E. Wardlow Rd. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
