Group exhibit investigates transformative power of enduring life’s challenges

The nonprofit Greenly Art Space, 2698 Junipero Ave., Suite 113, will present a collection of art that explores the theme of transformation through trials with its exhibit Beauty from Ashes. The show will open Friday, June 20 with a reception from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.
Gallery director Kimberly Hocking and Biola University intern Crystal Solares have gathered local artists to share their individual stories of how the creative process has helped in their journey through life’s difficult experiences. The show features paintings, drawings, spoken word and dance. The focus of the show is to shed light on the growth that comes through brokenness and to encourage hope, Hocking said.

“Upon considering one’s familial relations, it is essential to examine the genetic gifts one has been bestowed with,” said Emily Brozyna, an artist who contributed works of art that feature the human anatomy. “Bones are the main manufacturers of blood within the human body, and within one’s blood lies the mapping of familial traits. In ‘Vertebral Familial Inheritance,’ each vertebral machine has been labeled with the distinct characteristic that each of my own relatives has passed into my being. ‘Thoracic Genetic Products’ examines the traits that I have an understanding my personality harbors, whether deriving from a vertebral product or procuring solely from within myself.”
After the opening, this exhibit will be open for public viewing Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11am to 2pm, or through appointment by calling (562) 533-4020. The show will run through Aug. 22. The opening reception is free and open to the public.
