Donate blood at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center on Halloween and trick or treat at the Blood Donor Center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Prizes awarded for scariest, funniest and most original costumes, and there will be a drawing for a Halloween gift basket. All blood donated is used for patients at Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s Hospital. Those who donate blood will receive a voucher for a free flu shot. Signal Hill will be hosting its annual Halloween carnival from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Signal Hill basketball courts, 2175 Cherry Avenue. California Heights United Methodist Church is hosting a “Halloween Spooktacular” for kids up to eighth grade from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the church, 3759 Orange Avenue. WELLS’ AND WELLES’ WAR OF THE WORLDS
The Long Beach Shakespeare Company will celebrate its fifth anniversary in the Richard Goad Theatre, 4250 Atlantic Avenue, with an 8 p.m. live webcast re-enactment of Orson Welles_’ adaptation of H. G. Wells_’ The War of the Worlds- the famous radio broadcast that panicked America. Actors will perform the script before a live audience, complete with sound effects. KCRW’s Ken Borgers will be performing the Orson Welles parts, and KKJZ’s Helen Borgers is directing. The show will be aired on the internet at the same time.
