Halloween Haunts: Events and Activities taking place October 31

“VE VANT YOUR BLOOD”
Donate blood at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center on Halloween and trick or treat at the Blood Donor Center between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Prizes awarded for scariest, funniest and most original costumes, and there will be a drawing for a Halloween gift basket. All blood donated is used for patients at Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s Hospital. Those who donate blood will receive a voucher for a free flu shot. HAUNTED HILL
Signal Hill will be hosting its annual Halloween carnival from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Signal Hill basketball courts, 2175 Cherry Avenue. Children’s entry fee is $2 and adults are free for all the carnival games, arts & crafts, children’s costume contest, strolling magician, and candy. Light dinner

GET SPOOKED!
California Heights United Methodist Church is hosting a “Halloween Spooktacular” for kids up to eighth grade from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the church, 3759 Orange Avenue. Admission is a can of food to be donated to the Scouting for Food program. Included will be trick-or-treating, haunted mazes, face painting, games, crafts, candy, apple bobbing, ghost stories and a costume parade. Call (562) 595-1996.

LUCKY NUMBER 13
Grace Brethren Church of Long Beach will host its 13th Annual Community Carnival: A Party in the City! from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 3601 Linden Avenue. Admission is free. ON THE GREEN FOR HALLOWEEN
The Wrigley Area Neighborhood Alliance is sponsoring “Halloween on the Green” at 20th Street and Daisy Avenue from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., with games, prizes, treats, and a “creative to creepy” costume contest at 7 p.m. for kids ages 1 to 12.

PROPS TO MARY AND BRAM
As part of its Friday Film Forum series, the Long Beach School for Adults will be screening a double feature of Frankenstein and Dracula in the school’s auditorium, 3701 E. Willow Street. The program, which begins at 7 p.m., is free, but there is a $1 materials fee. Call (562) 997-8000, ext. 7198.

WELLS’ AND WELLES’ WAR OF THE WORLDS
The Long Beach Shakespeare Company will celebrate its fifth anniversary in the Richard Goad Theatre, 4250 Atlantic Avenue, with an 8 p.m. live webcast re-enactment of Orson Welles_’ adaptation of H. G. Wells_’ The War of the Worlds- the famous radio broadcast that panicked America. Actors will perform the script before a live audience, complete with sound effects. KCRW’s Ken Borgers will be performing the Orson Welles parts, and KKJZ’s Helen Borgers is directing. The show will be aired on the internet at the same time.
