Shakespeare by the Sea’s 2009 season, opening June 11, is offering laughter and romance under the stars with two fun and frisky comedies— for free. This South Bay tradition of professional productions presented with the beauty of nighttime Southern California as a backdrop has drawn the community time and again to join together in appreciation of Shakespeare and a unique and economical way to spend an evening out.
The season, presented by Target, will open June 11 with As You Like It, directed by David Graham. What starts out wrong, love will turn right in this wicked and wild tale of love conquering all. The following week on June 18, Love’s Labour’s Lost, directed by Jewels Eubanks, will open as audiences watch love battle reason in this bold and bawdy romp. These productions will continue throughout the summer in both Los Angeles and Orange counties, bringing the romance and brilliance of Shakespeare to all.
The 2009 season will also include a third production, Hamlet II (better than the original)” , directed by Gia Jordahl. This ticketed event that can be seen at Little Fish Theatre in San Pedro. All proceeds support the SBTS free summer festival. Hamlet II is a mad, zany parody of the original with a much happier ending.
