Residents, business owners and stakeholders in West Long Beach are invited to participate in a discussion about economic development opportunities in the area.

The City of Long Beach Economic Development Department is hosting a presentation to share research on market conditions and gather input on potential strategies for attracting investment and fostering business growth.

“The City is committed to investing in West Long Beach, as part of our Westside Promise Initiative, supporting local businesses and creating new opportunities that will drive economic growth in the community,” Mayor Rex Richardson said in a public statement. “Residents and businesses are encouraged to attend this important presentation and learn how we can all work together to bring lasting, positive change and growth that will benefit the area for generations to come.”

The event will take place on Saturday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Silverado Park, located at 1545 W. 31st St. Attendees will hear about ways to repurpose existing properties, explore housing as a revenue source that supports local jobs, and implement steps to encourage long-term economic development.

City staff from multiple departments will be available to answer questions and provide resources. Live interpretation services will be offered in Spanish and Khmer. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Long Beach City Council called for this market study to guide future investments in West Long Beach. In May 2021, Vice Mayor and Seventh District Councilmember Roberto Uranga introduced the initiative, with support from Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen, First District Councilwoman Mary Zendejas and former Eighth District Councilmember Al Austin.

“We are creating a brighter future for residents and businesses of West Long Beach,” Uranga said in a public statement. “Together, we can shape a thriving and inclusive community with new businesses, jobs and resources for all in the westside.”

This study is aligned with the City’s Westside Promise, a decade-long investment plan currently in its second phase. The initiative coordinates City programs and partnerships to address both longstanding and emerging challenges in West Long Beach.

Those interested in attending are asked to register online on the City’s website.
