Signal Hill police officials said this week they are still searching for a driver who struck a 13-year-old girl and ran over her foot, on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 8:30am behind Jessie Elwin Nelson Academy middle school.
According to a statement from the Signal Hill Police Department (SHPD), the girl was hit by a vehicle in a crosswalk close to the school on 20th Street, east of Walnut Avenue. The driver left the scene and was last seen driving westbound on 20th Street, according to the statement.
Police said the driver had possibly dropped off a student at the school just prior to the collision.
The girl who was hit sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Signal Hill Operations Lt. Mel Krizo said in a phone interview that no new information had been reported as of Monday, Oct. 21. He said the girl has since returned to school.
The driver is described as a 50-year-old Hispanic or Asian male with gray hair and brown eyes. The vehicle is a white, full-size pickup truck, Dodge Ram or similar brand, with a white lumber rack.
