Holy matrimony?

Holy matrimony?

Is is just me or is anyone else who has raised children uncomfortable with the widespread trumpet-playing for the upcoming marriage of Kate and William you-know-who? How morally correct is it to have lived with someone for eight years and then gleefully announce to the world that they will soon marry? Hurrah! Raise the flag, let the trumpets sound, have a day of celebration, behold— the prince is being married to his longtime live-in.
What kind of message is this all sending to our children? Yes, it’s okay to live with a boy/girlfriend before marriage just to make sure he/she is rich enough to cover your tracks. If you or he/she is not rich, don’t have children, because the people paying taxes to support your family will not appreciate it.
The father of the groom, in this case, certainly set a poor example for his son. Oh, well. I’m just too old for this kind of trend-setting. I wonder about the next generation and the next. Does it get any better, or just worse? I have nothing against the monarchy, just the people who are part of it. This gives new meaning to the song: “Getting to know you, getting to know all about you.” Of course, we all should know that is a fallacy because everything changes once you say “I do.” Then is when you really get to “know you” — the real you.
