Dr. David Hood, a professor at Cal State Long Beach, died on Thursday, Jan. 11.
Dr. David Hood, a scholar in the fields of ancient and medieval history, ancient literature and early Western civilization, died on Thursday, Jan. 11, according to a memo by Cal State University President Jane Close Conoley the following day.
Conoley called Hood “a beloved colleague and professor” who taught graduate and undergraduate courses and led classes on trips to Greece, Italy, Sicily, Egypt, England and France.
“So popular were these excursions, and his students were so appreciative of his work and efforts, that a number of David’s former students established the Ancient History Travel Scholarship Fund to support student travel to Greek and Roman sites with him,” Conoley wrote.
Hood served as one of three Cal State Long Beach representatives to the Academic Senate of the California State University (ASCSU), as a member of the Faculty Affairs Committe and the General Education Advisory Committee of the ASCSU.
“Notably, David was also a member of our campus’s Academic Senate and of its Executive Committee,” Conoley wrote. “He also played a vital role as the CSULB accreditation liaison officer to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.”
