Hop aboard Long Beach Transit’s museum express this summer

Residents can travel to local museums and cultural destinations with Long Beach Transit’s museum express.

Long Beach Transit’s Museum Express is returning for the summer, inviting residents to take group round-trips to local museums, libraries and cultural destinations. 

Destinations include Los Angeles museums such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Getty Center, the Craft and Folk Museum, the Petersen Automotive Museum, the Los Angeles Natural History Museum and the California Science Center. Additional locations include the La Brea Tar Pits, the Huntington Library, the Ronald Reagan Library, Mission San Juan Capistrano, the Bowers Museum and the Laguna Art Museum. 

Trips will take place every Saturday and Sunday from July 12 to Aug. 24. Tickets purchased before July 10 cost $14 per person, while tickets purchased afterwards cost $15 per person. Tickets only cover the cost of transportation, so any destination with an entrance fee is not included.

Day-trippers have two options for their Museum Express trip: the Transit & Visitor Information Center at 130 E. First St. or the Willow Station at 2750 W. American Station. There is parking available at both locations. 

Long Beach Transit’s Museum Express buses are battery-powered and wheelchair-accommodating. Children under the age of 2 can sit in an adult’s lap and are free. 

The Museum Express schedule is as follows:

  • Saturday, July 12, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Museum Row: LACMA, La Brea Tar Pits and Petersen Automotive Museum. All museums are within walking distance of each other. 
    • LACMA: Free for kids 2 and younger, free for kids 3-17 who live in LA County, $13 for kids 3-17 who don’t live in LA County, $23 for adults who live in LA County, $28 for adults who don’t live in LA County. Separate prices for students, seniors and people with disabilities. 
    • La Brea Tar Pits: $18 for adults, $14 for students and seniors, $7 for kids 3-12 years old, free for kids 2 and younger. 
    • Craft and Folk Museum: $9 for adults, $7 for seniors ages 65 and older and students, children 12 and under are free. 
    • Petersen Automotive Museum: $21 for adults, $19 for seniors, $13 for youth ages 12-17, $12 for kids ages 4-11. 
  • Sunday, July 13, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.Huntington Library
    • Cost: $29 for adults, $24 for seniors, active military and students, $14 for youth ages 4-11, $3 with a valid EBT card, free for children 0-3.

  • Sunday, July 20, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bowers Museum 
    • Cost: $18 for adults, $15 for seniors ages 62 and older and students 12 and older, youth under 12 years old are free. 
  • Sunday, July 27, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.Ronald Reagan Library 
    • Cost: $30 for adults, $27 for seniors ages 62 and older, $23 for youth ages 11-17, $20 for children 3-10, children 2 and under are free. 
  • Saturday, Aug. 2, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.Huntington Library
    • Cost: $29 for adults, $24 for seniors, active military and students, $14 for youth ages 4-11, $3 with a valid EBT card, free for children 0-3. 
  • Sunday, Aug. 3, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Museum Row: LACMA, La Brea Tar Pits, Craft and Folk Museum and Petersen Automotive Museum. All museums are within walking distance of each other.

    • Cost: $18 for adults, $15 for seniors ages 60 and older, $10 for youth ages 5-17. 
  • Saturday, Aug. 16, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.Laguna Art Museum 
    • Cost: $15 for adults, $10 for seniors ages 60 and older, college students and military, free for youth 19 and under. 
  • Saturday, Aug. 23, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.Ronald Reagan Library 
    • Cost: $30 for adults, $27 for seniors ages 62 and older, $23 for youth ages 11-17, $20 for children 3-10, children 2 and under are free.
