The Housing Authority of the City of Long Beach (HACLB) recently announced it will be opening the waiting list for the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program (HOPWA)— a tenant-based rental assistance program that provides rental assistance to households where one or more persons are HIV+ or have AIDS. The waiting list will be open until Saturday, November 29.
“The HOPWA Program is designed to help prevent homelessness and to promote permanent, safe and affordable independent housing in the City of Long Beach,” said Vice Mayor Val Lerch, 9th Council District, and Chairperson of the Housing Authority. “Currently, the Housing Authority provides almost $30,000 in rental assistance monthly to families with AIDS and has provided case management services, financial assistance for rental deposits, utility payments and mortgage assistance to over 150 families since April 2008. This program is designed to serve low-income households who will pay no more than 30 percent of their income on rent.”
Interested applicants can submit an English or Spanish language application online by going to HACLB’s website at www.haclb.org, or they can manually complete the application and mail it to the HACLB at P.O. Box 22631, Long Beach, CA 90801. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online by November 29, 2008. The HACLB will not accept any applications at its office.
