On Jan. 13, the 36th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade returned to Long Beach with a march along MLK Avenue.

The parade festivities began at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Anaheim Street, then traveled northbound up Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and concluded at 19th Street.

After the parade, there was also a festival at Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Lemon Avenue with entertainment, food,  vendors, and a kids’ zone.

The community members who were chosen to lead the parade as the Grand Marshals were Councilmember Al Austin; Chan and Mark Hopson, who co-founded the Khmer Parent Association; Tonya Martin, the president of Long Beach Pride; and Griselda Suarez, the executive director of the Long Beach Arts Council.
