An employee with the City of Long Beach this week succumbed to injuries he sustained on Sept. 1 while at work.
Stevaughn Matthews, 28, a garage services attendant assigned to the Department of Financial Management Fleet Services Bureau, was working on a trailer at the Fleet Services Building, 2600 Temple Ave., when the accident occurred.
Matthews was transported in critical condition to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center for treatment. On Monday, Sept. 5, he succumbed to his injuries.
According to city officials, Matthews had worked for the City since February and “was very well liked.”
“His presence will be greatly missed by his coworkers at the Fleet Services Bureau,” states a City press release. “City officials have expressed their deepest condolences to his family.”
Counselors with the City’s Employee Assistance Program are providing support and assistance to employees at the worksite, officials said.
The City’s Safety Office, in conjunction with the City Attorney’s Office, is continuing to investigate the accident along with the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
