It’s a Grind’s program benefits coffee growers

iag-coffee.jpgIt’s A Grind has announced the launch of its “One Harvest Coffee” program, a humanitarian business relationship between It’s A Grind coffeehouses, their roasters and independent coffee estates from around the world.
Coffees included in The One Harvest program are of exceptional quality and produced by families with amazing stores of success and hardship. The goal of One Harvest is to create a long-term, plentiful supply chain for these excellent coffees, while improving the quality of the workers’ lives by paying a fair market price. Moreover, growers benefit in other ways, such as receiving medical grants and loans to plant more crops. These programs are supported through the purchase of One Harvest coffee at It’s A Grind locations nationwide.
“On a humanitarian level, our partnering with these growers ensures they’re being paid a fair market value for the coffee and provides a long-term supply chain for the future,” said Rick Kowalski, vice president of operations at It’s A Grind.
One Harvest’s first three coffees originate from distinctively different locations. Las Lajas coffee is certified organic and originates from Costa Rica’s Chacon family estate. Titled Las Lajas, the estate is a leader in organic coffee and environmentally sustainable coffee farming practices. Coffee drinkers will appreciate Las Lajas’ light roast, buttery texture, rich aroma of caramel and the resulting smooth blend.
Chelba, the second One Harvest Coffee, is also certified organic and is produced at The Chelba Estate close to the Yirgacheffe district in Ethiopia. Chelba coffee is a dark roast, prepared using specially selected beans and controlled drying phases on elevated African beds. Chelba’s aroma is delicate and sweet, with complex flavorings of sweet blackberry, light floral notes and a lasting chocolate after-taste.
Rio Azul, the third One Harvest Coffee featured by It’s A Grind, originates from the Rio Azul co-operative, comprised of more than 150 families in Guatemala. This coffee is a medium roast with floral aromas, a subtle cinnamon taste and hints of mango.
